It is also advisable to spend this round focusing on breaking down The Delver's armor doing so will result in the Helix of the Delver V. Keep out of the way of both of these and rush in to punish before clearing out to the other side of the arean - rinse and repeat. At range, it has two attacks: a slam attack that shoots a string of nanites at the player followed up by a launching charge that is fatal if it hits. ![]() In direct opposition to the second phase, it pays to keep across the arena from the beast in this section. Players should not let this trick them into complacency, however - while the attacks are less quick, they are on the whole more deadly, costing the hero dearly for getting lazy. The final phase of the fight sees The Delver returning to two feet, albeit somewhat less mobile than in previous. The key to this stage is mobility - distance management and good dodge timing can make a particularly hard section a little easier. Dodging this attack is key as it will cause the enemy to become staggered, giving an opportunity for some good attacks, as well as the opportunity to destroy the shot nanites to prevent any health recovery. Keep on the toes and out of the way at this stage, as this section culminates in The Delver hurling itself at the player. After some time, Delver will launch itself onto the ceiling, raining down a pair of nanite attacks at the cost of its own health. Up close, be cautious of the combo attacks that can come in from either side of the player - try to dodge these rather than parrying (the speed can be a bit unmanageable in this form) and counterattack when possible. Try not to get too far away in this phase - the creature gains a dash attack that can cross the room and box the player into a corner, smothering them for extra, and often fatal damage. The second phase of the fight has The Delver dropping to all fours, gaining some substantial boosts to both speed and damage potential. The game is brutal, bloody, and an utter delight, playing with SoulsBorne tools in a unique, dystopic manner. Keeping high difficulty and a grim world at its heart, the game adds a focus on shredding enemies piece by piece and building the character from pieces collected from those unfortunate enough to get in their way, wonderfully, and horrifically realized through some truly slick motion capture. Among these spiritual successors and brothers in (desperately flailing) arms is the tech-nightmare world of The Surge 2. ![]() This basic structure has allowed for some incredible creativity Salt and Sanctuary brought the atmosphere and antagonism into a beautiful 2D world, Nioh beat Sekiro to the punch in re-framing the game in feudal Japan, the list goes on. In the wake of the enormous popularity of FromSoftware's Dark Souls series and its Gothic little brother Bloodborne, there has been a deluge of games described as "soulslike." Combining the series hallmarks of dodge-heavy combat, climactic and numerous boss battles, and the near-certainty of death after death after death for the player, recent games, from indie titles to triple-A blockbusters, have capitalized on the widespread love of the high-challenge, high reward formula for controller-breakingly challenging games.
